  • Life before Starfleet:

Risa is a world fully dedicated to holidays, where people converge all year long from the whole Alpha quadrant. Like most Risians, Auriel's parents run a hotel, helped by her two younger sisters, Yoelia and Nidia.
As a child, Auriel used to spend a lot of time serving at the bar. She also liked to travel with her father when he went to buy supply for the hotel in other worlds. All these journeys helped her realise how different the rest of the galaxy was from Risa. As a teenager, she began to think the artificial climate of her homeworld was too monotonous for her. Talking with the many customers of the hotel, she decided she would help people, not by providing distraction like her family, but by protecting them.

    Starfleet record:

Auriel entered the Academy at the age of nineteen and majored in Science. Her interest for nature in general and Risian vegetation in particular helped her assimilate biology very quickly, but she never liked the way humanoid races were studied in the Xenobiology department. This led to a few conflicts with her instructors during Academy time.

    Psychological portrait:

Risian women are said to be beautiful, clever and open-minded. All of this applies to Auriel. However, always being challenged to prove that she had more to offer than just jamaharon, she began more aggressive than she initially was. She is also a perfectionist who doesn't do things unless she can do them well. However, one cannot run a scientific department, let alone a whole ship, without trusting one's fellow officers. And Auriel is good at trusting. Perhaps too confident, she was told at Starfleet Command School.
As a captain, she is not too keen on discipline, thinking that a person is more efficient when he or she feels at ease. Therefore, she likes to be called "Auriel" by officers and slips into civilian clothes when she stays in her quarters or rests in a holodeck. In return, she expects a lot of work and devotion from her crew.
